December 31st, time for my annual mildly melancholy reflection of the year past and my ever hopeful list making and resolutions for the year to come. 2007 was a year of transitions, ramping up for new beginnings and lots of oxtail. My 2007 oxtail consumption exceeds all previous years combined. Time for a list. 2007 related thoughts and happenings from Lunamania, in no particular order:
1. Hamachi meets Fish -

For my birthday, The Monkey went on Craigslist and found me a rescue fish thus expanding by one Common Goldfish our menagerie of 2 cats, 1 dog, 1000 compost worms. Hamachi the Cat bonded with Fish the Fish and Bob and I mull the different strategies required to condition DC and Bay Area tap water. Resolved: I will post more about fishkeeping in 2008 and introduce tropical fish into the second tank (yes, I’m one of those people with multiple tanks…) and try not to stalk the halls of Ocean Aquarium for too many hours.

2. I ran -
In 2006, I did a mini-triathlon. This year I didn’t participate in an organized event, but despite fighting tears of boredom, I ran at least twice a week most weeks. So, I declare 2007 The Year I Ran a Lot. Resolved: Keep running, or even better find something that fun to do. Maybe a martial art.
3. Photologging
Last year (or the year before) I resolved to always have a camera on me. This year, I looked for some structure for the photobug. Took a photojournalism class and many many pictures. Resolved: a picture a day (Project 365), establish semi-automated digital workflow, make prints, rely less on photoshop.
4. Work/life balance
As the photography, re-vamped Lunamania, running, more time with friends and Fish Keeping indicate, 2007 was a year of more fun, less work. Or something like that. Still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, but for now the freelance/consulting thing is working out nicely. Resolved: make some money, make time and structure to get on with whatever it is I’m supposed to get on with.
5. Enough navel gazing, it’s time to say good-bye to 2007 and go “help” my mom and grandma with our tempura soba dinner and osechi.
Peace and cheers to 2007 and welcome Year of the Rat!
