Bay to Breakers, the only place you can find all of the above in a purported foot race/parade across a city. A couple of years ago, Jen and I ran this together in preparation for our various sporting endeavors. This year, Khoan–who is training for the SF Marathon, and I–not training for much, rambled along with 60,000 others. We strolled to the start line amidst the hoardes of keg haulers and tortilla tossers. The hands down best costumer prize goes to the 4 women and one “Big Daddy” dressed as the Texas polygamists. Don’t know where they found the dresses, but the women had those prairie dresses and sprayed their bangs to form the requisite 6 inch wall. Instead of race registration numbers, they wore tags reading “Wife #1″ #2 et al. The only thing amiss were the 7-11 big gulp size bloody mary’s they were sipping along the route.

I know it’s technically a 7mi/11km “race”, but hellow…roving tiki bars. So it’s really an annual stroll across San Francisco. After a much appreciated pit stop at Chris and Ed’s, we continued up the Hayes hill and into Golden Gate park where the costumes thin out and spandex density rises. We actually sped through the park –mostly to try to get past the naked (other than a flourescent green thong) dude. Adhering to B2B tradition, we ate loads of “recovery” dim sum.

The all-time BEST part of B2B? Volunteers handing out salon-pas at the finish line.

The run felt good and I smell summer around the corner…do I want to register for the Folsom triathlon…comments/votes welcome!
