Pre-Halloween Scares

I started this week pretty optimistic about the elections. Obama’s lead looks solid. I was basking in residual warm and fuzzies from the phone banking and precinct walking for Obama and No on 8. Highlight–Sunny and I knocked on the door of an 84 year old woman wearing at least 15 different pieces of Catholic themed jewelry. After assuring us she would vote for Obama, she informed us that “God created everyone equally,” so she would vote No on 8.Then I read about those neo-Nazi’s and their plot to massacre black high school students and then asassinate Obama. I also watched some chilling footage of the yes on h8 rallies that are taking place all over Oakland. Change is coming, the haters are scared and they are digging in for a last stand.
These yes on h8ers are venomous. They are not defending marriage or protecting their children. They foment hatred of queers.
Stop the hate and come phone bank with me. I’ll be at the Obama HQ on 19th and Broadway from 6 to 9 on Thursday (dialing for Obama and No on 8.) I’ll do a phone or precinct walk shift on Saturday too. Lemme know if you want to go together.
You can also dial from home, find a site closer to you or if you’re out of state give:

I want to wake up feeling unadulterated joy on November 5th – Obama in the White House and No on Prop.8!
Talking to strangers: No on Prop H8!

Licking the sidewalk around the Civic Center BART exit, finding a roach in my half-eaten bowl of pho, cold calling strangers to talk about queer rights–during dinner hours. If given the choice between those three options, most days I’d opt for the first two.But to spare myself the neurotic “what couldawouldamaybe happened if I had made those no on 8 calls…” thoughts on Nov.4th, the Monkey and I emailed our friends and had an evening of fones and food as we dialed for Obama and NO on 8. Dare I say…it was a lot of fun. I got to relieve massive election anxiety with friends and the lists we had were overwhelmingly opposed to 8 (I id’d 14 no votes and only 1 yes.) Not too many haters tonight.
We’ll be going again this Sunday and next Thursday for final voter ID and get out the vote activities. More info to follow, but holler if you just can’t wait for details.
NO on H8!

I am blogging out of spite. Just as I was contemplating what I should do with this blog,Paul Boutin at Wired tells me I should take this blog down.I’m told Lunamania cannot compete with the buzzing hives of bloggers employed at PerezHilton.com, Gizmodo and other “professional” sites. But I don’t want to scrawl mean captions on celebrity mugs or be the first to break news about Gundam slippers that make robot noises. Boutin also believes sharing Facebook status updates and tweets will raise my Brief and Witty factor. urgh. Some matters warrant more than a pithy 140 characters. Finally, Boutin says personal blogs are magnets for trolls and other vermin commenters. If a comment is annoying, I don’t approve it. You, gentle reader, have no First Amendment rights in Lunamania.
Cyberspace is already over-populated with all matter of half-baked opinions and questionable characters. Why deprive me of my little corner of internet real estate?
