My widest-angle prime lens right now on my Canon is a 50mm, and it drives me nuts - I really wish I had a fast 35mm lens. I guess it also depends on what you're shooting these days, but you can't go wrong with a good 50mm (equivalent) prime lens. I’d get the 35mm f/1.8, because I think it’ll be more versatile.
