Thanks to our amazing Bay Area peoples, Joannie’s memorial will take place at the Kaiser Rooftop Garden on August 28th from 3-5pm. The garden is located at:
300 Lakeside Drive, Oakland, CA 94620. I hope you can join us in celebrating Joannie’s life.

So many of you have reached out to me, Yuuki and Ayumi. I am so grateful for the love and care that has sustained us. Yuuki and Ayumi are showing their appreciation by gaining weight at a healthy pace. Yuuki gained a pound in one week and is well over 6lbs. Ayumi is inching towards heavy weight status as she nears 8lbs.

Hope to see you next week.

Luna, I knew Joannie for the short time that she worked at ECB. I have only today learned of both the very joyful news of the birth of your beautiful babies and the incredible sad news of Joannie’s passing. I thought you would like to know that in a short time, Joannie left her indelible mark of kindness, wit and compassion on all of us. She was well liked and respected by everyone who mattered. Unfortunately we were not notified of either the joyful or sad news and did not attend the memorial service held in new york.
I was so happy to see the photos of Joannie with the daughters she so eagerly awaited. I would like to help in whatever way possible, If someone would let me know how, what, where. My thoughts will be with and your family on the 28th. Fran

    Dear Luna,

I stumbled upon your blog today after reading a post on ACRJ’s website, and wanted to write and let you know that I am thinking about you. Your babies are beautiful and I am sure they will bring much joy and love and wonderful memories of Joannie. I was saddened to hear about Joannie’s illness and passing. And while we may not know each other all that well, I hope I can offer you some support during this time.

    Luna,

I, too, just learned of Joannie’s passing, and of the birth of your beautiful twins, on ACRJ’s blog. My thoughts are with you and your family. I just had my own daughter a few weeks back and hope that your children bring you the joy and happiness, and a daily reminder of the love you and your partner share, that mine brings me daily. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you here in Brooklyn.

    Take good care,
    Destiny Lopez

    Luna,

I was deeply moved to learn about the passing of Joannie and the birth of Apple and Bacon. It is truly remarkable all that Joannie continues to give. I too am a new mama and am familiar with the new experiences ahead. Babies are inspiring and enable us to face all kinds of challenges. And, we (your community) are also here to help. I look forward to staying connected past this incredible time.

    Much much love,
    Dana (your ’96 MAAP buddy)

Luna, Yuuki, and Ayumi: thank you for your strength and courage and bringing a smile to my face every time I see new pictures. I know today is a tough day as we celebrate Joannie’s birthday. Hopefully all the memories and the love of a growing village embracing you will make the pain slightly bearable. I can’t wait to see you on Saturday. much love, marielena

    Dear Luna,

I heard the wonderful news about the twins, and subsequently the terrible news about Joannie. I am truly so sorry for you, and so in awe of your strength in the midst of such challenges. You ability to see the beauty in life and in those little babies is an inspiration.

    All the best,
    Holly
