I don’t know how it’s already October. Pumpkin time is just around the corner. Aunties Rini and Christina got them great monkey and tiger outfits that we were hoping would fit for Halloween, but I think the Bonklets are still too small. (Joannie was born in the year of the monkey and I’m a tiger–as are Yuuki and Ayumi.)

Costume ideas? I could find a brown swaddle and they could be sacks of potatoes…

Here’s Yuuki looking quite sophisticated in brown–or as sophisticated as one can be wearing a onesie with an elephant embroidered on it.

Ayumi harbors very serious thoughts up in here. Very serious.

August life of Yuuki and Ayumi

Thanks to everyone who has left a comment here and/or otherwise let me know they secretly, or not so secretly stalk/check this site for updates.

As the three (maybe four) long-time residents of Lunamania.org may know, I have yet to figure out the blog worthiness factor of a post. Which leads to much navel gazing and few postings. However, I was a touch alarmed to note that my uncertainty has resulted in very few updates. The Bonklets object and their fans are disgruntled. So, I’ve decided to post more regularly–even if it’s just a picture. Don’t hate if it overflows your rss reader, twitter feed or your Bonklet digestion capacity. Suck it up, peoples. Life is tough sometimes.

Yuuki and Ayumi went to the doctor last week for vaccines and a weigh-in. They have grown since the last visit and are much more alert and aware of their surroundings, so it was that much harder to hear them wail and register their displeasure at the injections. But we (Bob in particular) were delighted to learn they had gained enough weight to make it on the “normal” height and weight charts. Current specs are:

Yuuki: 9lbs 6oz and 20 and 1/4 inches
Ayumi: 10 lbs on the money and 22 inches

Yuuki is closing the gap and has exactly tripled her birth weight. Ayumi is working on her sausage legs!

Growth spurt

Apparently babies go through various growth spurts where they frak with the carefully maintained sleep and feed schedules and test the fragile sanity of their caretakers.

Since the Bonklets can’t talk and none of the 75 parenting books we have in the house have definitive indicators, we could only guess that all the recent fussiness was due to a growth spurt. I mean growth spurts are pretty cool. We want the babies to grow. This probably underlies Bob’s optimistic “maybe it’s a growth spurt!” response to everything the babies do:
Ayumi’s sleeping–maybe it’s growth spurt!
Yuuki pooed–ooh, growth spurt!
Yuuki hasn’t pooed in 3 days–definitely a growth spurt!
Ayumi has nefarious plans to watch the US Open instead of sleep–growth spurt!

Anyway, we were left guessing and then were rewarded with the results of what can only be a spurt. Last week, Ayumi spontaneously sprouted eyelashes worthy of a mascara ad. Eyelashes? You’re now even cuter and all, but seriously? I can see your brain pulsating from the top of your yet un-fused skull and you choose to grow long eyelashes? Darwinian instincts not at play here.

Then this week, Yuuki’s head exploded. I mean it’s like twice the size that it was last week. That must have hurt. No wonder she was crying so much.
