Serendipity: A&J’s,one of Joannie’s favorite restaurants in Irvine, has an outpost in Rockville, MD just a short drive from Bob and Mark’s place. Last year, we scrumptiously discovered that the hand cut noodles, spicy dumplings, and pull bread taste just as good in Maryland. Sadly, Ayumi and Yuuki were too small to partake. We took them for lunch today to sample Mommy Joannie’s favorite dishes. Yuuki devoured the pork dumplings and Taiwanese pork chops (with a side of pickled mustard greens) and Ayumi enjoyed the pull bread, noodles and anything within her reach…

Thinking of holidays, Vin’s passing, missing Joannie, Isaac’s smile, creative warmth of women, and loving light. Remembering making holiday parol lanterns with the Gabriela Network. Joannie above with the prized Gay Star in the making! Click for more pictures. I think next year I’d like to start a tradition of making lanterns (accompanied by lots of food, of course)with Ayumi and Yuuki, for Joannie, Vin, Isaac and everyone we want to remember. Who wants to join?
